“porter Une Identité De Fracture”: The Fractured Identity In Nina Bouraoui’s Garçon Manqué

Résumé: This article presents an analysis of Nina Bouraoui’s Garçon manqué, within a critical framework of perspectives on cultural and gendered identity. By basing the analysis on a close reference to a number of seminal works, written by authors such as Edward Said and Judith Butler, the present article suggests that Bouraoui suffers from a constant sense of displacement, and attempts to claim and reappropriate her identity. Since she is the result of an interracial marriage, Bouraoui endures a double discrimination, which forces her to drift between two countries, then consequently leads to forming her fractured identity. Besides, this article sheds light on Bouraoui’s struggle with her gender identity and how she attempts to legitimize her body through performing a male role, even though she has conflicting feelings towards men. Eventually, these inner struggles urge Bouraoui to start writing, to create a space where she truly belongs.
