The Use Of English In The Algerian Economic Spheres :

Résumé: It is acknowledged wordewide that English is the lingua franca of the world. This perspective has been a source of inspiration and attraction to the Algerian business community. This dissertation investigates the status and the presence of English in Algeria, focusing on the use of this global language in the Algerian workplace . The Algerian economic companies ; specifically, the National Agency fot the Promotion of Foreign Trade (ALGEX) company, is served as the case study of the present research. This research aims at investigating the spread and the use of the English language in the business landscape of Algeria. Furthermore, it identifies the reasons behind the use of English in the Algerian companies. It uncovers the indirect messages that the use of English conveys. In order to investigate these aims, three research tools were used ; A questionnaire that was administered to specific Departements of Algex. Interview with Algex’s head service. And observation, The three of them contributes in the analysis of the studied case. The present research is both quantitative and qualitative, the findings of the results reveal that English is used in the Algerian business spheres as an instrument to communicate with the international economic businesses and communities, in addition to using it to attract the clients and the consumers as the English language becomes a sign of modernity and prestige. Finally, suggestions for further researchs are provided and limitations are mentioned, both in the last chapter.
