Résumé: The aim of this study was to understand the strategy adopted in media coverage of sports competitions by the National Public Television Corporation of Algeria, specifically during the Mediterranean Games Oran 2022. The study was initiated with the following main question: What is the strategy adopted in the media coverage of the sports competitions for the Mediterranean Games Oran 2022? The study before us is a descriptive analytical one that relies on content analysis methodology and uses a content analysis form, which has been constructed and developed to include 07 content categories (the subject, orientation, values, sources, objectives, target audience, actors) and 06 form categories (persuasive techniques, shots, camera angles, camera movements, visual and auditory effects, the language used). It was applied to a sample of videos from the Mediterranean Games Oran, where 12 units were selected as a purposive sample based on the type of available sample and according to the availability of the videos on the channel’s official YouTube platform. The key findings of this study concluded that the channel focused on pre-competition and during competition topics as the most significant, and that the orientation adopted in this media coverage for the Mediterranean Games Oran 2022 is a supportive one as it emphasized total support for this competition. The study found that the values present in this competition for the Mediterranean Games Oran 2022 are human and news values, that the most important sources relied upon were official sources, and that the main objectives of the Mediterranean Games Oran 2022 were to strengthen the sports spirit among players and participants, promote cultural and tourism in the city of Oran, and the efforts expended to reach the highest level of organization for this significant event. The target audience was identified as the general public followed by the media audience, and players and the public were found to be the most active participants. As for the form, the study revealed that the persuasive methods used in this media coverage of the Mediterranean Games Oran 2022 were emotional, coverage relied on extreme close-up shots focusing on the main actor, the most commonly used camera angles were horizontal, and for camera movement in this media coverage of the Mediterranean Games Oran 2022, it involved both internal and external movements. The most relied upon effects were visual, and the colloquial Arabic language was the most used language in this media coverage of the sports competition.
