Résumé: : There is no doubt that antibiotics and vaccines have been key unique too tools that helped to control and eradicate many deadly infectious diseases in human and animals. However, in the era of post-antibiotic control of bacteria and the emergence of multi-drug resistant bacteria and pathogens causing chronic infection escaping the host defenses, innovative strategies of control of pathogens are urgently needed. With the extensive animal production, agriculture use of lands and deforestation, use of immunosuppressive drugs in human and animals, emergent pathogens are increasingly appearing particularly following the jump of the species barrier from animal reservoirs to another animal species including zoonosis in human. Development of molecular biotechnology genetic tools has helped to characterize the genetic bases of many of the virulence factors associated with pathogenic microorganisms. This helped also to develop modern vaccinology strategies and to generate innovative vaccine prototypes. HIV inducing AIDS in human causes chronic degenerative disease characterized by the loss of infected host’s immune defenses in favor of active proliferation and pathogenesis of opportunistic microorganisms. We used a naturally attenuated lentivirus of goats, caprine arthritis encephalitis virus: CAEV, as a model to study the tropism and pathogenesis of both goat and primate lentiviruses. Data generated helped to develop innovative strategies and prototypes as vaccines against the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that we tested in animal models.
