Effets De L'ouverture Commerciale Sur La Contribution Des Investissements Directs Étrangers (ide) À La Croissance Économique Des Pays De L'uemoa.
Résumé: The aim of this thesis is to analyze the effects of trade openness on the contribution of foreign direct investment (FDI) to economic growth in WAEMU. The results are divergent with regard to the theoretical and empirical literature relating to this problem. To test our hypothesis, we used the Pooled Mean Group (PMG) method on panel data over the period 1996-2018. The data comes from the WDI 2019 database. Our results confirm Bhagwati's hypothesis that a liberal trade regime improves the effects of FDI on the economic growth of the host country. In particular, they show that trade openness has a positive and significant effect on the contribution of FDI to economic growth. They also suggest that openness has a positive and significant influence on economic growth in our study area. Finally, our results show that FDI flows have a negative influence on economic growth. In view of these results, the governments of these countries should take measures to facilitate trade and improve the business climate for well-managed FDI. They must also develop energy infrastructure, and invest in human capital.
