Résumé: The aim of this project is to tackle a one of the most basic, yet intimidating human casual tasks, that is, parking one’s vehicle. During the holidays or special national occasion, parking one’s car can get even more challenging; letting them focus less on their more important jobs. This project is an IoT (Internet of Things) solution that uses recent technologies and APIs to solve the proposed problem. It consists of a mobile application that detects the user’s location, talks to a server application and then proposes nearby parking facilities and guides the user to it in real time. Inside each parking facility, an embedded system is used as another kind of web client in our paradigm, the role of which is to keep track of available parking lots and monitor cars at entrance and exit.The mobile application does not require authentication and displays a road map nearby the user’s geolocation. Along which, green markers are shown representing different parking facilities in the displayed area. Clicking a given marker will provide the driver with more information about it, along with a “reserve” button. Clicking on the button will give the user a reservation code that’s composed of 4 digits, resulting in reserving a parking lot in the given facility. The app then tracks the user’s location and keeps displaying the shortest road to reach that parking space. Once the user reaches his destination, he will be prompted to enter the reservation code in the embedded system using a keypad. The system will then check the validity of the code by sending a request to the server application; if the code is correct, the door is open to the driver so he can efficiently park his car with the least possible effort.The software part of the system consists of three main aspects; Server Side, Client Side application for the driver, and a Client Side application for the parking facility. The server side is a Node.JS server application that talks to a MySQL database, the client side application for the driver is a mobile application built on web technologies (HTML / CSS / JavaScript), and the client side application for the parking facility is a Raspberry Pi Python client application. The software consists mainly of the Raspberry Pi, along with Keypad and LCD display for entrance authentication, Stepper Motors to drive the entrance and exit ports, and Motion Detectors to detect the car exit.
