Investigating The Effectiveness Of Enhancing Productive Vocabulary Achievement Through Language Games Based Learning
Résumé: Vocabulary learning has always been a foremost concern for those who want to learn a second language. However, most learners often feel bored in vocabulary lessons as they have not developed their traditional habit skills such as note-taking, rehearsing, and learning words by heart passively based on the teacher's explanation. EFL learners generally look for easy ways to learn vocabulary unconsciously but in an integrative way; that makes them prefer learning through games. This research aims to investigate the effectiveness of language games in facilitating learning and improving English productive vocabulary for Algerian secondary school pupils. An experimental method through pre/post-tests and a questionnaire were conducted to achieve the previously mentioned aims and collect quantitative and qualitative data. Forty first-year literary stream students of Bouchareb El Taher high school in Bourached, Ain Defla secondary school, participated in this research. Findings revealed that language games are effective tools for enhancing secondary school learners’ vocabulary achievement that teachers should employ in teaching English vocabulary. It also elicited the learners’ awareness of the significant role of integrating language games in foreign language classroom.
