Linguistic Deviations As A Reflection Of Psychological Turmoil In Eugene O’neill’s Long Day’s Journey Into Night.
Résumé: The present study attempts to investigates the types of linguistic deviation in relation to psychological turmoil in Eugene O’Neill play “Long Day’s Journey Into Night”. Besides it’s aims also to determining the reasons behind these linguistic deviations . Chapter one aims to describing the eight different types of linguistic deviation according to Leech’s (1969) classification , and how it’s related to psychological turmoil. Chapter two represents the methodology used in O’Neill’s play. Chapter three is a corpus-based and analysis restricted to be following types of linguistic deviations , lexical deviation, phonological deviation, graphological deviation, semantic deviation, and dialectal deviation in “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” . O’Neill motives behind using these deviations is to imply some specific information with their psychological status.
