A Translation Quality Assessment Of Interpersonal Theme In Al-hikam Aphorishm (arabic – Indonesia – English): Systemic Functional Linguistics Approach

Résumé: Aphorism is a genre of literary works that are quite unique. Linguistically speaking, it has three strong characters, namely: (1) memorability, (2) concision, and (3) ambiguity. These three elements further strengthen the aphoristic style of expression. In aphorisms, there is an information structure that can be divided into Theme (known information) and Rheme (new information). One part of the Theme is the “Interpersonal Theme”, which is the Theme used to interact and transact socially. The data in this study was collected from the aphorisms text of Al-Hikam in Arabic (L1) which has been translated into Indonesian (L2a) and English (L2b). Finally, it can be concluded that the formulation of the research problems is as follows: (1) how the translation techniques applied by the translator in translating “Interpersonal Themes” in al-Hikam's aphorism text. Is the translator more inclined to the source language or target language? (2) Then how is the quality assessment of the translation of interpersonal themes in al-Hikam's aphorisms, both in terms of accuracy, readability, and acceptability.
