The Investigation Of Code-switching Impact On Learning English Language At The University.
Résumé: This dissertation tackles the topic of “The Impact of Code-Switching on Learning English Language at the University. Case study: Licence and Master Students of English”. The purpose of this research paper is to disclose how some cultural and historical factors affect the Algerian dialect and lead students to switch between their vernacular speech, Arabic, French and English. So, to reach the objective of that study, three hypotheses have been established. Firstly, the Algerians have their own dialect, language, traditions, and culture as French language; they also borrow vocabulary from Spanish, Turkish and Berber. These languages are the heritage of the colonialism. Secondly, the Algerian University is a large space that combines different students from different regions in Algeria. Hence, this combination causes the code-switching phenomenon. However; to answer the third question, it could be said that Algeria has a lot of linguistics varieties. Consequently, the Algerian people are capable to mix between different language and each language represents a culture. The majority of the results reveal the same hypothesised reasons that lead students to switch between, Arabic, French and English hence, this phenomenon has an impact on the language acquisition and understanding.
