The Effects Of Private Schools On Efl Students’ Performance
Résumé: Private supplementary courses are a practice that is rising in popularity across the world. Recently in Algeria, many parents have started enrolling their children in private courses, particularly language subjects. This study aims to explore the attitudes of secondary school students towards private schools and investigate the driving factors that lead them to enroll in private schools' English classes and the effect of the curricula deployed by these schools on EFL students' academic performance and language proficiency. To reach this aim and test the hypothesis set for this research that states "private schools improve EFL students' academic performance and language proficiency". a descriptive method was applied in which a questionnaire has been administered to (32) secondary school students who take private English classes at "El-Amir" private school in Ain Beida. The analysis of the questionnaire revealed that students display positive attitudes towards private schools and their academic performance and language proficiency were improved due to supplementary courses provided by private schools. This proved the hypothesis of the research and paved the way for some suggestions concerning the study of this phenomenon.
