Common Mistakes In Master Dissertations Made By Efl Students At Djilalibounaama, Khemismiliana University

Résumé: This study explores the different mistakes that EFL students make while writing up their master dissertation. It aims to understand the nature of these mistakes and address them from the student's perspective. Twenty second-year master students from the department of English at the University of DjilaliBounaama, KhemisMiliana, were invited to attend focus group sessions. All of the research participants are one month away from dissertation submission, which allowed them to provide more insights about the topic. Qualitative thematic analysis is the method used to analyse data. Verbal data from the focus groups was transcribed to facilitate thematic analysis, generating codes and building themes. The findings from this study showed that EFL master students make several types of mistakes while writing up their dissertations. The mistakes are related to language proficiency, literature review synthesis, the research process, and failure to follow citation guidelines.
