The Election Of Barack Obama And Its Implication To Racial History 2008-2012
Résumé: The United States of America is strongly structured upon white supremacy. This ideal makes every aspect of American life exclusive to the white race, especially leadership. Apparently, the contemporary period has provided an example where America has broken with its history. In 2008 the African American, Barack Obama, could climb the political ladder to be the first black president in the U.S. His raise into power ushered unprecedented rhetoric about racism with a new dimension; which is the ''Postracial'' era. This notion denotes that both races black and white find their way to melt finally. The color line is supposed to vanish after that famous election. But has the color line really vanished? At this light this dissertation is held to negate the overestimation of the significance of Obama's election to racial history through the period of 2008 to 2012. Thus, the U.S. by having an African American in the White House, it does neither give up its ideal of whiteness nor override its racist foundation. And, African Americans still occupy a second class status in every socioeconomic indicator.
