Fpga-based Intelligent Solar Tracking System
Résumé: This report describes the design and implementation of an FPGA-based singleaxissolar tracking system to harvest maximum energy from the sun. An activetracker is used. The tracking mechanism consists of two similar light sensors, a stepper motor, and an intelligent controller implemented on a single FPGA chip, that to track the sun and keep the PV cells continuously facing the incident sunlight during the course of the day. The digital controller is partitioned into two subsystems which are: (1) a soft-core processor-based subsystem built around the Altera Nios II embedded processor using the system on a programmable chip approach, and (2) a fuzzy logic controller that is designed and implemented in the FPGA’s massively parallel logic elements using VHDL. This hardware/software solution runs on the Altera Cyclone II EP2C35F672 FPGA to test the feasibility and effectiveness of the controller.
