Challenges Hindering The Effective Implementation Of Student-centered Learning

Résumé: In recent years, there has been a deliberate shift from traditional teaching to student-centered learning. Therefore, universities are under pressure to implement more student-centered approaches to produce autonomous learners able to keep pace with the global competition. However, lecturing is still the dominant mode of instruction in colleges and universities worldwide. This paper is a scoping review undertaken to summarize the challenges faced to implement learner-centered approaches in higher education contexts. The findings indicate that student-centered methods have been applied piecemeal within universities. Hence, a methodical approach to the implementation of learner-centered education is crucial if it is to gain popularity and succeed in bringing about better results.
