A Study About The Used Politeness Strategies In Refusal Speech Acts In Relation To Gender As An Influential Factor The Case Of Third Year Students Of English At Mku Of Biskra
Résumé: Abstract Thanks to Brown and Levinson’s agreement on the universality of politeness strategies, many studies have been conducted in order to justify the existence of varied strategies between cultures, since each culture has its own norms that effects on many practices. Hence, the purpose of this study was to investigate the used politeness strategies in turning down invitations, offers, requests, or suggestions in relation to gender (and whether there are differences between females and males’ refusals strategies), and the effects of the socio-cultural values on ones’ refusal. Therefore, a quasi-experiment has been designed based on Discourse Completion Test (DCT) instrument which is commonly applied in pragmatic researches; a questionnaire has been distributed to third year students in addition to an interview with some teachers in order to test the hypotheses. The sample for the experiment were groups one and two, who have been exposed to this issue. This study is based on paired t-test which compares pre and post tests’ results, and this process was done statistically through SPSS for the accuracy of the results. The findings highlighted the distinction obtained between males and females’ strategies, and the impact of the religious principles on the students’ refusals. ملخص استنادا الى نظرية براون وليفينسون الشاملة الستراتيجيات التأدب ، أجريت العديد من الدراسات التي عنيت ببحث استراتيجيات التأدب المستخدمة في الثقافات المختلفة و خصوصية كل ثقافة, فالهدف هو البحث في استراتيجيات التأدب المستخدمة في رفض الدعوات , العروض , الطلبات أو االقتراحات و عالقتها بجنس المتكلم )أي ما إذا كانت هناك اختالفات بين استراتيجيات الرفض بين اإلناث والذكور( ، وتأثيرات القيم االجتماعية الثقافية على طبيعة الرفض. لذلك ، تم تصميم تجربة تعتمد على الوضعيات االفتراضية كأداة بحث التي يتم تطبيقها بشكل شائع في األبحاث العملية ؛ عالوة على ذلك ، تم توزيع استبيان على طالب السنة الثالثة باإلضافة إلى مقابلة مع بعض األساتذة من أجل فح الفرضيات. كانت المجموعة المختارة للتجربة من طالب السنة الثالثة من الفوجين األولى و الثاني. تستند هذه الدراسة الى اختبار "ت" مقترن يحلل النتائج األولية و النهائية للمجموعات باستخدام برمجية باقة الدراسات االجتماعية للوصول لنتائج دقيقة. أبرزت النتائج وجود اختالفات بين استراتيجيات الرفض للذكور واإلناث ، ويمكن مالحظة استخدام المبادئ الدينية في حاالت الرفض بشدة.
