The American Policy In The Persian Gulf Under The Bush Jr. Administrationthe Invasion Of Iraq (2003), A Case Study

Résumé: This thesis examines the U.S. foreign policy under the Republican control. It shows the most recent examples of the Republicans' orientation in conducting foreign affairs. The presidency of George W. Bush witnessed great challenges to the U.S. supremacy and security. The emergence of new powers in the world and the acquisition of the nuclear power by anti-American regimes marked the beginning of new possible confrontation never witnessed since the collapse of the USSR. The fears of the external dangers was felt by U.S. citizens after the 9/11 attacks in 2003. That was also a good opportunity for the Bush administration to wage an open- ended war on states deemed as evil. In that context, Bush conducted a fierce propaganda to invade Iraq, to supposedly, pursue his war on terror. However, all his efforts failed to win legitimacy in international institutions because it did not have legal grounds. Despite the illegality of the invasion of Iraq, Bush ordered it under some pretexts like liberating Iraq and establishing a democratic regime. At home, he claimed that the war was for preserving the national security and welfare of the U.S. taxpayer. The end of the major hostilities revealed a completely different reality for Iraqis and Americans. This paper shows the path of Bush's foreign policy, especially with the Iraqi issue through his tenure in power and highlights the ineffectiveness of his interventionist policy. The resulting outcomes on the U.S. and Iraqi citizens and even other states sustain this idea
