Langue(s), Culture(s) Et Identite(s) Collective(s) : Une Approche Glottopolitique Des Processus De Construction Identitaire En Algerie

Résumé: This study is concerned with the decisive role of language in the process of identity construction. More particularly, it deals with the crucial relationships between multilingual practices and the collective identity within the Algerian context. The heuristic hypothesis behind the present inquiry states that language is not simply used to transmit and communicate information, but it possesses an inner affective ‘load’. It is this load that carries the elements of identity construction of the community. This symbolic dimension imparts to language the function of identity, improving more its conceptual quality. The study adopts the glottpolitcal approach to undrstand more the complexity of the Algerian sociolinguistic situation and to provide an objective description of various issues resulting from the important part that language plays in the process of identity construction. In this perspective, we chose to carry out the present survey using a questionnaire in order to understand the contribution of the linguistic representations by the Algerians in this process. The present inquiry had two main results. First, the Algerian linguistic identity seems to be constucted on a de facto plurality constituted of Arabic and Tamazight, without considering any conflicting duality such as the one which exists between Arabic and French and which is relate to colonial era. Second, multilingualism seems to be a promising approach, reconciling different constituent languages of the Algerian identity. Thus, this step will secure the Algerian society from the danger of the hegemony of one language over the other existing ones.
