Summary Mythical features in the novel The Golden Ass by "Apuleius": “The Golden Ass” is considered to be the first novel or the first literary document in human history, which included forms of literature that were represented in stories, theater, and poetry. The mythical aspect distinguished it and controlled its path which gave it a beautiful and imaginary dimension. The reincarnation or the shift which got into the structure of the novel changed the events because of the protagonist’s desire of shifting to a bird, but the opposite happened, he became a donkey. This incident revealed an existing flaw in the human nature and an imbalance between the stable and the variable in the accountability of the human conscience .Apuleius used the structure of the myth, which served the novel’s idea, so he could disclosure shape shifting, magic and supernatural transitions in the novel.
