Brexit And Theories Of European Integration

Résumé: Recent events have cast doubt on the EU's long-term viability as a successful political and economic organization. Many events, ranging from the euro and sovereign debt crises to the rise of right-wing, populist, and anti-liberal forces, have called into question the very underpinnings of European integration, whether it be economic cooperation or a community of values. Following the Brexit referendum, this issue got even more pressing. As a result, a new line of inquiry into European disintegration has recently emerged. It was designed to fill a significant vacuum in the body of literature, which had previously emphasized integration processes. The goal of this research is to look at Brexit which is an exemplification of disintegration tendencies through the glasses of European integration theories to see how well they match up.
