Résumé: Adaptive behavior among autistic children and mentally retarded children - a comparative study - at the Psycho-pedagogical Center for mentally disabled children in Ouargla 2 Dr. Ibrahim, KasdiMerbah University, Ouargla, Algeria, 2022 The current study aimed to identify the level of adaptive behavior among children with disabilities and autism in the dimensions of the adaptive behavior scale (communication, socialization, and daily life skills) the Arabized version by Dr. Bandar bin Nasser Al-Otaibi, professor at King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, among disabled children and Autistic children integrated in the specialized institutions of the Ministry of National Solidarity, Family and Women's Issues in the southern Algerian region, and in order to achieve the objectives of the study, a sample of disabled and autistic children was selected, where the number of its members was (58), and in order to collect information for the purpose of the study, the adaptive behavior scale was used, which It was prepared by Dr. Bandarbin Nasser Al-Otaibi, a professor at King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The scale consists of five dimensions, which are (communication skills, daily life skills, socialization skills, motor skills, and non-adaptive behavior). The current study was limited to the three main dimensions, and two dimensions were excluded for the following reasons: The dimension of motor skills because it is applied to The researcher used the appropriate approach, which is the descriptive-comparative approach, which is a way to reach specific goals and a specific situation, and its goal is to describe the studied phenomenon by collecting codified information about the problem, classifying it, analyzing it, and subjecting it to careful study. The results indicated a high level of adaptive behavior in the personal adequacy factor, an average level in the factors of social adequacy, and personal social responsibility, and that there were no statistically significant differences between males and females in the level of adaptive behavior. The results of the study also indicated that there were no differences in the level of adaptive behavior. Adaptive behavior according to gender is due to the degree of disability and in favor of simple mental disability, while there are differences in the level of adaptive behavior due to the different nature of the disability.
