Résumé: تبنت معظم الدول التنمية المستدامة كهدف وطني لها في ظل التدهور البيئي وما أحدثته الثورة الصناعية من استنزاف للموارد وإخلال بالتوازن العام، وفي ظل الضغوط على المنشآت للقيام بمسؤولياتها اتجاه البيئة والمجتمع أصبحت حماية البيئة ضرورة حتمية ليظهر التدقيق البيئي كأحد الروافد للمحافظة البيئية ووسيلة للتأكد من الالتزام بالقوانين والسياسات والبرامج الإدارية البيئية وكأداة لتحديد حجم الإجهاد الكي والنوعي الذي يحدث للبيئة والموارد. وباعتبار الاستدامة نسيج يلف جميع المؤسسات التي لها مستقبل حيث يمثل الأداء الاجتماعي والبيئي عاملا رئيسيا للنجاح ليبرز معالم مساهمة التدقيق البيئي من حيث تقاريره لتوفير المعلومات اللازمة لأغراض التنمية المستدامة.
