Students’ Attitudes Towards Autonomous Learning In Esp Context
Résumé: The present article attempts to investigate the concept of learner autonomy with ESP context from students’ perspectives. The ultimate purpose is to contribute to the reflection on the autonomy of foreign language learning by presenting a case study relating to a particular EFL teaching/learning context. To this end, a survey questionnaire was distributed to a randomly selected sample of forty (40) Engineering students at L’Ecole Supérieure en Sciences Appliquées d’Alger in order to find out their attitudes towards, and readiness for self-dependent ESP learning. It also unveils the activities students engage in both inside and outside the classroom within the framework of their perceived responsibilities. The questionnaire was an adaptation of Cotterall’s (1999) and Joshi’s (2011) Learner Autonomy Questionnaires. Research findings are discussed with regard to students’ needs appealing for future research and for innovations in the teaching/learning process.
