Résumé: The main objective of our work is to improve the properties of the « mullite- zirconia » composite, in particular the mechanical properties by adding suitable additives (MgO and TiO2) in well-studied quantities. In this study we devoted our work to the synthesis of mullite from two different local materials (alumina and aluminum slag), by adding well-defined quantities of each chosen additive. Depending on the properties of the additions, the pellets obtained underwent appropriate sintering. The raw materials and aggregates designed have been thoroughly studies by means of X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, optical and scanning electron microscopy, the porosity, shrinkage, and density, mechanical resistance, and hardness of the samples.
