Bridging The Gap Between Translation Studies And Pragmatic Competence

Résumé: It is believed that translators are the social agents and mediators, they essentially bring cultures, ideologies and languages together. This present study aims to explore how the lack of pragmatic competence can affect the essence of the intended meaning in translation. The primary objective to shed light on the importance of filling the pragmatics and ideological Gap between the translator and the TL. This study is a descriptive qualitative case study that will firstly analyse Arabic-English translation corpuses and pick out the pragmatic elements from them and prove that pragmatic competence is important for coherent meaning, additionally an interview will be held for translation teachers for the sake of checking if translators had pragmatic knowledge and how it affects their translation quality
