Résumé: بالرغم من أن تدريس الفلسفة للأطفال هو نشاط غير عادي ولا يدخل في التقليد البيداغوجي الشائع في المدارس، إلا أن الطفل الصغير حسب ماثيوز بمقدوره أن ينخرط بشكل طبيعي في ممارسة التفكير الفلسفي، فيبني الحجة ويصوغ السؤال إن وجد من يوجهه ويساعده بعناية وحذر شديد ،فالأطفال يملكون القدرة اللازمة والمؤهلات الضرورية والاستعداد الكافي للدخول في حوارات فلسفية جادة مع الكبار ،لا كمتلقين فقط وإنما كأطراف وشركاء في النقاش ،إن ماثيوز يسعى من خلال أعماله إلى تعزيز مهارات التفكير والنقد و تطوير الأسئلة الفلسفية التي تتضمنها تعليقات الأطفال العفوية حول مواضيع متنوعة ،وكذلك التركيز على استكشاف الجانب الفلسفي في أدب الأطفال والتعريف به. Although teaching philosophy to children is an unusual activity and does not fall into the common pedagogy in schools, the young child, according to Matthews, can naturally engage in the practice of philosophical thinking, so s/he builds the argument and formulates the question if there is someone who directs and helps them carefully and patiently. Based on this, the necessary ability, qualifications, and sufficient willingness to engage in serious philosophical dialogues with adults, not only as recipients but as parties and partners in the discussion, Matthews seeks through his work to enhance thinking and critical skills and to develop philosophical questions contained in children's spontaneous comments on a variety of topics, as well as focusing on exploring and introducing the philosophical aspect of children's literature.
