Résumé: The present study aimed at investigating the problem of educational wastage among the trainees enrolled in vocational training. The study attempted to answer the following main research question: What are the educational wastage factors embedded in vocational training institutions from the perspectives of the trainees? In order to answer this main research question, the study tried to answer the following research questions: 1. What are the significant individual and institutional factors of educational wastage at vocational training institutions from the perspectives of the trainees? 2. Are there any differences between individual and institutional factors of educational wastage at vocational training institutions according to the variables of age, gender, type of training, and regional distribution? The study employed the exploratory approach to answer these questions. Data collection was carried out by means of a questionnaire that has been administered to a sample consisting of (729) trainees, selected by Multistage Cluster Random Sampling, at (47) vocational training institutionslocated in the states of the south-east of Algeria. The study has reached the following results: 1. The theoretical paradigm of educational wastage factors at vocational training institutions enjoys Confirmatory Factor Validity, which indicates the validity of the theoretical paradigm, and its consistency to the sample data. 2. The study identified the educational wastage factors at vocational training institutions from the perspectives of the trainees the states of the south-east of Algeria. According to their importance, these factors were as follows: A. The institutional factors were the most influential on educational wastage at vocational training institutions compared to individual factors. The factors of this dimensionhave been arranged in a descending order according to their importance as follows: - Organizational factors: factors related to training came first in importance, followed by factors related to internal rules of procedure. - Pedagogical factors: these related to the instructor were the most important followed by factors related to the curriculum. B. The individual factors ranked at second place after institutional factors in explainingeducational wastage at vocational training institutions from the perspectives of the trainees. The factors of this dimensionhave been arranged in a descending order according to their importance as follows: - Personal factors: in this dimension, factors related to mental health were the most influential, followed by factors related to physical health. - Social factors: in this dimension, cultural factors were the most influential, followed by family factors. - There is no significant difference in the individual and institutional factors of educational wastage at vocational training institutions according to the variable of regional location (Ghardaia - Ouargla - the valley). - There are significant differences in the individual factors and institutional factors of educational wastage at vocational training institutions according to the variable of gender in favor of females. - There is no significant difference in the individual and institutional factors of educational wastage at vocational training institutions according to the variable of age; is the respondents, with various ages, did not differ in their vision of educational wastage factors, which means that the age variable has no effect on factors of educational wastage at vocational training institutions. - There are significant differences in the individual factors of educational wastage at vocational training institutions according to the variable of type of training in favor of apprenticeship. - There is no significant difference in the institutional factors of educational wastage at vocational training institutions according to the variable of types of training. - There is no significant difference in the individual and institutional factors of educational wastage at vocational training institutions according to the variable of levels of training. For the interaction among variables, the results revealed that the majority of the interactions have been insignificant except for the following: - There is a statistically significant effect of the interaction among the variables of (region, level, age) on the individual educational wastage factors in favor of the adult trainees (older than 18 years) in Ghardaia. - There is a statistically significant effect of the interaction among the variables of (region, gender, level, type of training) on the individual as well as institutional educational wastage factors in favor of the third level female trainees at training via apprenticeship in Ghardaia. - There is a statistically significant effect of the interaction among the variables of ( gender, level) on the individual as well as institutional educational wastage factors in favor of the third level female trainees. - There is a statistically significant effect of the interaction among the variables of (region, level, age) on the individual educational wastage factors in favor of the third level male trainees (younger than 18 years) in Ghardaia. - There is a statistically significant effect of the interaction among the variables of (region, level, age) on the institutional educational wastage factors in favor of the fourth level male trainees (older than 18 years). - There is a statistically significant effect of the interaction among the variables of (level, type of training) on the institutional educational wastage factors in favor of the fourth level male trainees at training via apprenticeship. - There is a statistically significant effect of the interaction among the variables of (level, type of training, age) on the individual educational wastage factors in favor of the third level male trainees (older than 18 years) at training via apprenticeship. - There is a statistically significant effect of the interaction among the variables of (level, type of training, age) on the institutional educational wastage factors in favor of the fourth level male trainees (older than 18 years) at training via apprenticeship. The results have been discussed in light of previous related studies as well as the theoretical framework of the study. The study concluded with presenting recommendations and suggestions for future research.
