Evaluating Algerian Efl Teachers’ Knowledge About Autonomy In Foreign Language Education
Résumé: Although it has been proven to be all-important in the language classroom, learner autonomy is still a new and vague notion for a considerable number of English language teachers worldwide. This paper aims to check whether or not EFL teachers in Algeria know enough about learner autonomy in foreign language education. Accordingly, a questionnaire has been administered to a group of EFL teachers at the universities of Constantine and Setif. The analysis of data showed that the majority of teachers do not have accurate and extensive knowledge about learner autonomy. For them, it is a new notion that they rarely read about or consider promoting in the classroom.
