Résumé: The objective behind this CFD-based numerical study is to investigate the effect of the geometrical properties of flat plate heat exchangers on their hydraulic and thermal efficiencies. Flat plate heat exchangers are used, generally, as receivers to absorb solar heat and transfer it to a medium fluid. Several studies reveal that there is a relationship between the geometrical properties and the energetic efficiency of solar absorbers; however, no straight forward formulas that relate the geometrical properties to the overall efficiency have been achieved. However, other studies suggested that there is a direct relationship between the thermal efficiency and fluid distribution uniformity. In addition, it is known that the hydraulic efficiency reflects pressure losses in any hydraulic system. In this study, three solar absorbers with different hydraulic networks are designed and simulated under the same boundary conditions and by using the same numerical procedures. On the basis of the simulation results, a comparison in terms of flow rate distribution and pressure losses is made; thereby, predictions on the thermal and hydraulic efficiencies are made.
