A Schizoanalytical Reading Of The Dynamics Of The Oedipal Family In Jonathan Franzen’s The Corrections
Résumé: The article studies the ideological influence of capitalism on the family in Jonathan Franzen’s The Corrections (2001). Relying on schizoanalysis, as an anti-oedipal analysis, it argues that the father internalizes the oedipalizing system of capitalism and inflicts it on the family members. As far as it trains its members on repression and self-deception, the Lambert family becomes a generator of the capitalist subjectivity. Moreover, because of the incompatibility between the oedipalizing regime of the nuclear family and the schizophrenic tendencies of late capitalism, the Lamberts experience a state of decentering leading to clinical depression and to the disintegration of the whole family.
