Résumé: Short-radius wells are commonly used when re-entering existing vertical wells in order to use thelatter as the physical base for the drilling of additional horizontal sections. The steel casing of avertical well facilitates attainment of high DLS as opposed to uncased holes. A short-radius profilemay allow drilling the entire section within the pay zone. The small displacement required to reach anear-horizontal angle also favors the use of short-radius in small lease blocks. The need to avoidextended drilling in a difficult overlying formation also favors use of a short-radius well. Short-radiuswells also have certain economic advantages. These include a lower capital cost.The continuous control of the trajectory is the most important thing in the operation of drilling SR well.
