Résumé: This research studies the problem of periurban areas in Algeria through the case of the major cities of East Algeria. These spaces have emerged recently as evidenced by new spaces, reflecting the changes that have taken place in Algerian society, since the end of the last century. And today present themselves as a mixture of social and spatial without harmony mosaic, or format are no longer just yesterday, they had become dense space and constantly changing, we fear that disappear from the farmland in the near future the cities, they are always targeted and under construction. The definitions of these areas around cities pose the problem of the nature of the urban phenomenon we are trying to measure. From the point of view, formal presents an urban form in dispersion in multiple directions within the natural and agricultural environment. And from the point of view of functional relationships, have strong relationships with the major cities that represent the urban pole and by the huge volume of daily movement of the population toward purposes and multiple reasons, including work. Our goal in this study was not intended to push into this theoretical debate but it offers other ways of thinking, based on the assumption that reflects the richness of the vocabulary used also the diversity of operations, vary considerably from one context to another, and from one region to the other, so them are different forms of planning, and practice communities, technological factors social and economic usually mentioned in the analysis of urban sprawl, which will have the same weight.In addition, the comparative approach to the phenomenon of urban sprawl in three models of major cities of the Algeria is instructive. Allowed us to highlight the specific factors of differentiation in this process, but also in urban forms, the common characteristic of this marginal growth of cities is undoubtedly the consumption of agricultural land under the label of new forms of land use: industrial areas, activities, real estate transactions, shopping centers, etc. However, we do not stay look at the issue of the decline of agriculture in peri-urban areas of Algeria as a disaster only. Because it turns out that, the progress in the city could provide a stimulus to revive agricultural activities due to the growing demand for urban areas.
