Cultural Hybridity In Chinua Achebe's No Longer At Ease

Résumé: This study delves into the concept of cultural hybridity as exemplified in Igbo society in Chinua Achebe's novel, "No Longer at Ease" (1960), which serves as a prominent theme in postcolonial African literature. The primary objective of this research is to illustrate how Nigerians have been influenced by Western culture through the character of Obi Okonkwo, who embodies a hybrid identity. This investigation will focus on aspects such as his identity, language, and traditions. To achieve this goal, the research will be conducted through the lens of postcolonial theory, utilizing historical and descriptive analysis to showcase the prevalence of hybridity within Igbo culture. Specifically, the study will examine how individuals from the generation on the eve of Nigerian independence found themselves caught between two worlds, struggling to find a sense of belonging. Furthermore, the research will explore the impact of British culture and the urban lifestyle of Lagos on Obi's adherence to traditional Umuofian norms. It delves with the complexities of cultural hybridity in "No Longer at Ease," it contributes to get a deeper understanding of the intricate interplay between tradition and modernity in post-colonial African societies. تتعمق هذه الدراسة للكشف عن مفهوم التهجين الثقافي لدى مجتمع الايغبو في رواية "لم يعد مطمئنا " (1960) للكاتب النيجيري ذائع الصيت "تشينوا اتشيبي", الذي يعد موضوعه سمة أساسية في ادب مابعد الاستعمارية.كما تهدف هذه الدراسة على مدى تاثير الثقافة الغربية على المجتمع النيجيري من خلال الشخصيىة الهجينة "اوبي اكونكو"الذي بدوره يعايش صراعا داخليا من خلال أفكاره ولغته وكذا تقاليده. لغرض الوصول الى هذا الهدف أجريت هذه الدراسة من خلال نظرية ما بعد الاستعمار, باستعمال التحليل التاريخي والوصفي لدراسة التهجين لدى النيجريين وبصفة خاصة لدى جيل غداة الاستقلال الذين عايشوا ازمة التمزق مابين الموروث الافريقي والتحديث الأوروبي ’وكذلك تاثير هذا الأخير على صعوبة الالتزام باعراف قبيلة "يومافيا"التي تناقض حياة الرفاهية التي عايشها "اوبي" في مدينة "لايغوس".وبالتالي تخلص هذه الدراسة لفك التعقيدات مابين الاصالة والحداثة لدى المجتمع الافريقي.
