Résumé: The present study aims to detect the relationship between thinking styles according to Sternberg’s mental self government theory and personality traits in light of the big five factors model among high school excellent students. The participants were all high school excellent students (n=281) in Ouargla city. We applied the List of Sternberg & Wagner thinking styles (1991), the Arabization of Mr. Mohammed Abu Hashem (2007), and Informants’ personality traits were assessed using the Goldberg’s NEO Five Factor Personality Inventory (1999), the Arabization of Mr. Mohammed Abu Hashem (2005) , there was reassuring to them validity by conducting a scoping study for the purpose of calculating the psychometric properties before they are applied in the basic study, and dealt with (SPSS 17.0), and ended with the following results: 1.the using of thinking styles according to Sternberg’s mental self government theory among high school excellent students in varying proportions. 2. the prevailing of the personality traits in light of the big five factors model among high school excellent students in varying proportions. 3. there are no statistically significant differences in thinking styles according to Sternberg’s mental self government theory among high school excellent students due to the gender variable (male, female) , excepting the royal, internal thinking styles. 4. there are no statistically significant differences in thinking styles according to Sternberg’s mental self government theory among high school excellent students due to the variable of Specialty (Science, Literature) excepting the judicial, external thinking styles. 5 . there are no statistically significant differences in personality traits in light of the big five factors model among high school excellent students due to the gender (male, female) and Specialty (Science, Literature) variables 6 .there are a relationship between thinking styles according to Sternberg’s mental self government theory, and personality traits in light of the big five factors model among high school excellent students in Ouargla city, and these results has been analyzed and interpreted in light of previous studies, and theoretical heritage
