Résumé: Algiers city center has the distinctive of being the identity center of the capital by the proximity of the sovereignty buildings and the contiguity of the Casbah. Being multifunction, it accentuates this strong identity. It is a counterexample of urban chaos that characterizes the new Algiers periphery. The architectural diversity is the main characteristic browsing decades of construction. From this conglomerate of architecture, the intellectual honesty has to recognize the qualitative predominance of the buildings during the colonial period that was adopted by the populations without reserve. A fancy confirmed by the authorities with carrying out to rehabilitations wholesale even if clumsiness’s have been reported. It is in this concern, to go with this fancy, that it is necessary to support the technicians in charge of rehabilitation by studying elements or parts of elements of colonial buildings which doors is the most iconic element. The various styles identified in the Algiers city center constitute a historical architecture panel of the XIXe and XXe centuries. We shall see the various styles elaborated during the industrial revolution with the mastery of new materials. The architectural diversity with superposing styles ranging from neoclassical to eclectic, neo-Moorish, from the Art Nouveau to Art Deco inspired by metropolis which knew a large artistic revival. By the same token, the production of the doors guaranteeing access to buildings as a fundamental element of architecture is a reliable of the architectural quality of the buildings according to typological and decorative varieties that we have identified in their dual spatial and temporal context. However, the gateway connects and articulates two scales namely architectural and urban ones. Thus, the street towards which is oriented the door is a benchmark study that was used to compile the inventory and produce a knowledge of the door allowing a typological classification of these elements and establish a documentation which will be used mainly in rehabilitation operations, maintenance and development.
