Language, Culture And Literary Translation Of The African Context: The Case Of Ngugi Wa Thiong’o

Résumé: Language, Culture and Translation are important questions and the most heated debate in past colonial African studies. Language and culture are interconnected along with translation as a complex activity, though an old debate in Western societies, but still valid in contemporary translation studies in Africa. Actually, translation gis not only rendering a text from one language into another, but it is also transfering a culture to the receiving audience. In the african context, the literary translation depends on the metropolitan cultural and literary standards. The present article will aim to study the African context, and deal with the essays of Ngugi Wa Thiong’o, a Kenyan writer/translator and critic.
