Résumé: This research, titled “The Structure of Character in Naguib Mahfouz's Novel The New Cairo”, aims to uncover the nature of character in Naguib Mahfouz's novel and its complex structure and interaction between its elements. The research begins with an introduction that explains the importance of character in narrative literature in general and in Naguib Mahfouz's novels in particular. In the first chapter, we discussed the concept of character structure from both a linguistic and terminological perspective, in addition to the various classifications and types of characters as presented in literary and critical works. The second chapter is dedicated to studying the structure of character in "The New Cairo," where we analyzed the main and secondary characters, how they are presented by the novelist, and their relationships with each other. We focused on the main characters such as Mahgoub Abd El-Da'im, Mamoun Radwan, and Ali Taha, and how each character reflects a different social and intellectual current in Egyptian society. In the conclusion, we summarized the key findings of the study, highlighting Naguib Mahfouz's role in developing the fictional character and reflecting the social and political reality of Egypt in the 1930s.
