Cyberbullying has emerged as a critical global social issue. However, the majority of research testing the prediction of cyberbullying behavior and interventions claiming to reduce it have not applied sound theoretical thinking sufficiently to assist intervention professionals such as psychologists, sociologists, and others. This paper reviews the Barlett and Gentile Cyberbullying Model (BGCM), a theoretical framework developed to explain and understand the phenomenon of cyberbullying. Specifically, we demonstrate how the BGCM can predict cyberbullying behavior beyond conventional bullying and describe the theoretical foundation that helped build the BGCM.
