The Relationship Between Renewable Energy Consumptionand Economic Growth? Evidence From North Africa
Résumé: In fact, there is a universally consensus about the transition’ obligation to renewable energy consumption. As the economic growth is countries continuously striving goal, this study endeavours to investigate the relationship between renewable energy consumption and economic growth in North Africa countries (Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Mauritania and Libya) over the time period (1990-2020). The Panel autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) focusing on PMG estimator is employed to examine this relationship. The findings of PMG estimator in long-run corroborate the existence of negative relationship, whereas the increase by 1% in renewable energy consumption leads to decrease the GDP by 16,60%. Also, theyaffirm the absence of any relationship in the short run. Moreover, the results of causality test confirm the conservation hypothesis through the existence of unidirectional relationship from economic growth to renewable energy consumption in North African countries over the period time 1990 to 2020.
