Efl Instructor’s Experience With Online Teaching During The Covid-19 Pandemic: Challenges And Recommendations

Résumé: article As the Covid 19 pandemic spreads over the world, there has been an increasing move towards teaching and learning online because of shutting down of universities for an indefinite time. Thus, the whole educational system has been collapsed and E-learning platforms have been developed in many countries including Algeria. Before the pandemic, assessments in Algeria were usually given in paper printouts to students the day of the exam, and they had to be handed out manually. During the lockdown period of 19 pandemic however things changed and some teachers had to shift all their paper-based quizzes, term exams, and class assignments to an online format. Online assessments are conducting an online test at home to measure the knowledge of the participants by using the computer or mobile devices.This research was carried out in order to get insights into teachers’ perceptions of online assessment under the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic and to find out the challenges that teachers faced when implementing online assessment practices during this period. The data of the research were collected by carrying out a questionnaire that was administered to 50 teachers of English departments at different Algerian universities (Setif, Batna, Oran, and Constantine).The results showed that E-assessment can be a helpful tool of evaluation in situations of crisis but there are many challenges that teachers face when implementing online assessment practices.
