Racial Discrimination Against African Americans From Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man (1952) To Claudia Rankine’s Citizen: An American Lyric (2014)

Résumé: The African-American traumatic experience with slavery aroused another battle with identity along the way. The end of segregation in schools , politics , marriages and workplaces created a mask that hid racial inequalities and injustices . Whereas , the African American literature sprang from the blacks’ suffering during and after slavery . At the beginning , the authors faced challenging circumstances ; they had to challenge and to change the stereotypes about considering the blacks as invisible , inferior and not able to produce work of literature. This dissertation will undertake the explanatory approach to focus on the issue of racism in America and its impacts on the life of African American individuals and the reasons that made race acts grow up , throw examining the novel Invisible Man 1952 of Ralph Ellison and the American lyric Citizen 2014 by Claudia Rankine in order to highlight the relationship between the American society and African American society . Invisible Man deals the blacks’ identity and their American experiences , focusing on themes of identity , invisibility , alienation , racism and blindness in order to explore , while investigating Citizen : An American Lyric (2014) and the African American racial experience , it discuss similar themes to Invisible Man in addition to microaggressions . This dissertation demonstrates different faces of racism and its consequences on the African Americans ; yet tries to find out the main reasons of racism between people . As a result , this dissertation concluded that the issue of race in America in the twenty-first century is still a turbulent matter , while the racist actions were encouraged by the principle beliefs that human beings raised on as race , culture , skin color
