Résumé: بجاية هي إحدى المدن الجزائرية التي لها تاريخ مزدهر غائر في أعماق التاريخ ،أقام بها الفينيقيون والرومان والبيزنطيون. عرفها المسلمون عندما أصبحت عاصمة الدولة الحمادية، التي تعد من أكثر الدول الإسلامية نفوذاً والتي هيمنت على شمال إفريقيا لفترة من الزمن. وتمتعت بسمعة وشهرة مستمدة من تلك المراكز الثقافية والمعمارية وتجارتها الشعبية وقوتها البحرية التي دافعت بها عن شواطئ المغرب الإسلامي ككل واستطاعت الحفاظ عليها. وكانت مقصداً للعلماء وطالبي المعرفة. كما أنجبت علماء ومفكرين ، ولم تضيع تلك الشهرة وهذا الدور إلا عندما امتدت إليها أيدي المستعمرين. سنحاول في هذا المقال إبراز أهمية هذه المدينة في التاريخ الجزائري من خلال بقاياها الأثرية ، وكيف استطاعت الصمود أمام كل العوائق عبر العصور والأزمنة المختلفة ، خاصة في العصر الحمادي ، حيث كانت يشع ضوءها .
