Chaos In Ernest Hemingway's Modernist Literary Work "the Sun Also Rises 1926"
Résumé: By the outset of the twentieth century, the modernist movement appeared. It was about breaking with the past and the old traditions and following a new cultural stream. It had an enormous effect on literature, especially on American and European literature. The literary artists adopted unprecedented style and themes. One of the pioneer artists was Ernest Hemingway who portrayed chaos in his first novel The Sun Also Rises. In this study, we will discuss the depiction of chaos that prevailed at that time, and how Hemingway inserted it into the novel. The first part will be devoted to discuss modernism, chaos and the connection between both. Thereafter, we will focus on the experiences of Hemingway and make a synopsis of The Sun Also Rises. The final part is devoted to show how chaos is depicted in the novel. The findings of this research are that Hemingway depicted the subject of chaos remarkably. In addition, he inserted new techniques and style that foster the image of chaos which he wants to convey to his readers. Key Words: Modernism, Chaos, Ernest Hemingway, The
