The Negative Influence Of Arabic On Efl Learners Writing
Résumé: Writing is a complicated process especially writing in second language. Composing free errors paragraphs is one of the basic objectives of EFL teachers. Many studies reveal that EFL learners tend to use interference from their mother tongue in the process of writing in English (L2). The aim of this study is to see either there is a relationship between learners' first language L1 (Arabic) and the syntactic errors they commit in their paragraphs or not, and it also investigates the major reasons behind making these syntactic errors in writing committed by students. To fulfill the purposes of this study, fifty (50) paragraphs produced by third year secondary school students at Ferhati H'Mida were analyzed to show the main syntactic error types. The data that were collected from paragraphs analysis revealed that third year EFL students commit different types of syntactic errors and the main reasons for them are interlingual (interference) and intralingual.
