Résumé: The Competency-Based Approach is a new approach which was adopted by the Algerian Educational system in 2003. This new approach is based on developing learners' competencies in order to help them face some problems in their daily life. It also aims to enable learners to put what they have learned in other life settings.The research at hand aims to investigate if Competency-Based Appraoch(CBA) is implemented in middle school classes and to what extent it effects the learners motivation in learning English as a foreign language.To reach the aim of our research,Two samples are put forwad: The first sample consists of 13 Middle school English teachers (03 teachers from Kamel Zemirline , 02 from Mahmoud Allal,05 teachers from Ziri Benmennad and 03 teachers from Djebara Boualam). The second sample consists of 41 second year Kamel Zemirline middle school pupils : ( 27 girls, 14 boys) .Data were collected by means of two instruments : Questionnaire delivered to Middle school English Teachers, about the implementation and application of CBA ,and Experiment made on one group of second year pupils of Kamel Zemirline Middle School.The findings of the study revealed that there was an actual use of CBA and that there was a positive impact of CBA on pupils’ motivation in terms of performance in learning EFL
