Résumé: This paper examines the impact of the Qur’an exegesis, also called ‘tafsir’, on the translation of comparison constructions from Arabic into English. It is admitted that many distinct translation suggestions, whether on the syntactic or the semantic levels, are given to a singlecomparative item in the verses. In fact, a comparative study of comparison constructions in both Arabic and English, as well as an analysis of the comparative and superlative degrees of the adjective, revealed the outstanding role of ‘tafsir’ referencing in the Qur’an translation.
