Gender Representation In The Efl Textbook ‘my Book Of English’ Used In The Algerian Primary Schools: A Content Analysis.
Résumé: This study examines the representation of gender in the new Algerian English textbook, approved by the Ministry of Education, which is compulsory for third-year primary school pupils. The research aims to analyze the number, occupations and the locations of male and female characters in the textbook, as well as their gender roles and the language use. A content analysis and interview which is done with of a group of primary school teachers consists of ten teachers. These later were used as data collection tools. The findings indicate a departure from the traditional norm of male dominance in terms of both the number of characters and the language used. However, traditional gender biases still exist when it comes to the types of occupations, locations, and gender roles assigned to the characters.
