Black Women Socio-political Activism In America Up To 1980s
Résumé: Black women activism was a sociopolitical movement against racism, sexism and segregation which was led by African American women. The first chapter examines black women discrimination and oppression during slavery and the primary resistance methods that were available at that time. Whereas, Chapter two analyzes Black women issues especially gender and race subjects. Black women’s politics stressed the importance of the organized work through institutions and organizations that allow their voices to be heard. Black women reacted both against gender segregation and patriarchy as well as racism forms which were displayed by some white women. During their long journey, black women emphasized on the importance of radical thoughts which aimed to liberate the black race. The experiences and life lessons that black women provided in this study illuminate the means of self and community strong relationship of the black race in US. In this work black women are introduced in different levels that show their chronological changes, in which they positively and successfully moved to a better social and political position.
