Résumé: During the Ottoman period, military laws forbade Algerians from joining the army. However, the reasons behind this did not appear clearly, and perhaps the fear of increasing numbers of Algerians in the army and their separation from the Ottoman state was the main reason behind This decision. The first dispatch of volunteers to the Algerian army was in 1520, Sultan Selim I (1512-1520), accepted the request of the Algerian delegation to annex Algeria to the Ottoman Empire
