Résumé: This study is intended to investigate teachers' and students' attitudes and beliefs concerning the role of Competitive Learning in Enhancing English as a foreign language learners' motivation in the classroom at Larbi Ben M'hidi University, department of English. It attempts to offer answers to the following questions: 1. what are teachers' and students' beliefs about competitions and motivation? 2. Do teachers and students have the same perspectives concerning the role of competitions in boosting the students' motivation? To probe into the subject, the following hypothesis set that: EFL teachers and students have positive perceptions towards the impact of competitions on motivation. To test our hypothesis, we used two questionnaires handled to both teachers and students. The teachers' questionnaire was composed of sixteen questions administered to ten teachers of different modules, who were randomly selected, and it aims at investigating their attitudes about the impact of competitions on students' motivation. For students' questionnaire, twenty-two questions were handled to 25 students of Master One at the department of English, Larbi Ben M'hidi University, who have been randomly chosen during the academic year 2016-2017. The analysis of the findings obtained from both questionnaires provided a clear picture of teachers' and students' attitudes and beliefs concerning the role of competitive learning in enhancing motivation in the classroom. The results of the present study revealed that competitive learning can be considered as a motivational tool for EFL learners. That is to say, there is a positive and effective correlation between competitive learning and students' motivation in the classroom. This study also proposed a number of suggestions and recommendations for future research.
